Why does my form insist on exactly 50KB?
Most Indian government and exam portals set a hard upload ceiling — usually 20KB–50KB for photos — to keep their servers light. A typical phone photo is 2–8MB, so it has to be cut down by well over 98% to clear the check.
Will the photo look blurry at 50KB?
There's some visible softening at that size — that's unavoidable physics, not a bug. We search for the highest quality setting that still lands under 50KB, so you get the best version possible within the limit.
Do the width and height change?
No. Only the encoding quality changes. If a portal checks pixel dimensions, like 200×230 for a passport photo, those stay exactly as uploaded.
Does this work for scanned signatures and PNG screenshots?
Yes — PNGs are compressed on the server using palette reduction, which handles flat-color images like scanned signatures better than a plain quality slider.
Is my photo saved anywhere after compression?
